Built in 1899 for a missionary with a hankering for his English homeland, this rambling Tudor-style lodge was built with the help of moonlighting ships' carpenters from the anchorage below the house site. Shipwreck materials, whale vertebrae, and local heart kauri rough-hewn timbers were used in the construction.

We are located on a hillside on the main road. The view of Matauwhi Bay is magnificent from almost every room. The lawns, orchards, roses, and hundreds of flowering and scented plants are a delight to explore. Russell village with its historic buildings, shops, restaurants, and cafés is just five minutes easy stroll away

Our romantic guest rooms are refurbished in true Victorian style with antiques and memorabilia. The roomy guest lounge has unsurpassed views and includes a piano, olde worlde gramophone with records, library, and comfortable furniture.

We offer a range of accommodation types for a maximum of 18 guests (peak rates from Dec 19 to Jan 31 in brackets).

The Lodge building is a no smoking zone and a quiet haven for peace seekers.
