It was love at first sight when we found this house. We named it after one of the first ships to arrive in Lyttelton in the 1880s. Randolph House is an 1879's villa, originally single storied, and added to over the years. The house is full of character, with original flooring and kauri doors with leadlights. We have painted and refurbished the interior completely in the two years we have lived here. Our paintings, antiques and books add to the charm of the house. The double gables provide separate accommodation for guests and hosts.

More recently, we refurbished a separate studio; The Crows Nest. It is popular with guests who want to be more independent

Breakfast is served in the conservatory styled dining room. Our specialities include fresh fruit salads, yoghurt, home made muesli, assorted cereals, and porridge. Bacon and scrambled egg au Jonathan are a favourite. Assorted teas and fresh coffee are always available.

The garden is steeply sloping and could be described as rambling ! We have planted lots of cottage plants, and enjoy the large walnut and fig trees. We have a race each year to get to the pears before the birds and the possums.

The verandahs of the Crows Nest and the house have superb harbour views, and are a great place to unwind with a glass of wine after a day in the city, or walking the hills.

Woollen underlays, electric blankets, and choice of duvets and woollen blankets. Cotton bathrobes. Commode Dressing tables and drawers. Narrow ships cabin style staircase with original timber flooring.

Bathroom, toilet, shower and basin with kauri floor is downstairs. A laundry is also available.

Access to the house is by a pathway and steps from the road. Your hosts will help you with your luggage

Lyttelton is an historic port town, with an unique village atmosphere, and only 20 minutes drive from the centre of Christchurch. The drive to the airport is 30 minutes. Historic walks. Eating at one of the fine local restaurants. The Harbourlight Theatre and the Wunderbar are popular for live theatre and music. Sailing, Mountain biking. Paragliding. Dolphin watching.
